Gated Entrance

The gated entrances allow restricted access to the village during the nighttime hours. The main entrance gate is open during the day, but is closed after dark. Access can easily be gained by residents with a remote opener or pass code. Visitors and guests can gain access by speaker phone at the gate.   The gate is equipped for automatic access by emergency vehicles.

Homeowner's Association

The Homeowner's Association at Abingdon Glen Village provides an essential role in the life of the village. The Homeowner's Association is the ultimate decision-making group determining what services should be provided and what rates will be charged. Abingdon Senior Housing Services, Inc. provides the management services and handles the administration of the Homeowner's Association. The Homeowner's Association ultimately determines how and by whom management will be provided.

Sidewalk System

Walking is typically the most common form of exercise and recreation for adults and Abingdon Glen Village is designed to encourage this activity. The main roadways are all designed in a circular fashion and sidewalks are installed along the inside perimeter of each circle. The village sidewalk system is tied in to the city sidewalks which makes access possible by foot to much of Hickory.  Additional walks are a part of the village green space making beautiful Falling Creek more accessible for the enjoyment of everyone.

Clubhouse

The local cable TV provider has designated a channel accessible by all townhomes at Abingdon Glen Village for announcements and notifications. This serves as a fast and easy way to communicate throughout the village.

Swimming Pool

The clubhouse is a large open well-appointed space ideal for homeowner meetings, dinners, and parties, as well as private gatherings.

  • Kitchen - This kitchen is designed for use by catering services, group activities, and individual use.

  • Exercise Room - Includes specific pieces of exercise equipment that are geared primarily for homeowner use.

  • Village Office - Is operated by the Village Manager and provides a point of contact for information and coordination with services provided by Abingdon Glen and the wider Hickory community.

  • Emergency Generator - On standby to provide a warm place to go in the event of power loss during inclement weather.

  • Library - Available for homeowner use and is also supplied by the City of Hickory public library

This heated outdoor pool is an integral part of the clubhouse and provides a source of recreation and exercise for homeowners and their guests for a large portion of the year. This moderate sized commercial pool features 3 to 5 foot depths and entry steps that make it easy to enter and exit the water.

Garbage Pick-up

Garbage is collected on a routine basis at each individual home and taken by staff to a central, on-site location. Residents do not have to worry about hauling trash to a Dumpster.

Maintenance
Exteriors/Grounds

Each building at Abingdon Glen Village is constructed of low maintenance exterior materials. Maintenance of building exteriors is inevitable, but is no longer the worry of the individual homeowner. Abingdon Glen Village staff are responsible for repairs and routine maintenance of all exteriors. Included is exterior painting, roof repairs, siding repairs, mowing of lawns, weed control, trimming of shrubbery, and maintenance of mulched areas. Residents are encouraged participate in the beautification of their own yard and common garden areas when and if they choose to do so.

Staffing

One of the features that provides a great deal of reassurance to residents of Abingdon Glen Village is the presence of an on-site staff person during normal business hours. Staff persons provide many services including coordinating activities and services with the wider community, and providing a source of communication and information.
